Turbocharger’s main role is to improve the engine intake and to increase engine power and torque. An engine with a turbocharger, compared to one without it, increases its power by 40% or more. This means that an engine with a booster can have greater power. Our most common 1.8T turbo engines with a booster can reach the power of 2.4L while maintaining the fuel consumption level of the 1.8 engines. As a result, it improves the fuel economy and reduces tailpipe emissions.
First to introduce turbocharger general structure principle,turbocharger is main composed of compressor and turbine, of course there are some other control parts.Compressor and turbine is connected by a rotor, it’s rotor assembling. Engine exhausting drives turbine,while turbine drives compressor to compress more air into cylinder. Turbocharger installs to exhausting of engine,so turbocharger working temperature is very high while rotor speed is high which can reach 100000 in one minute. Common mechanical needle and balling bearing can’t work for rotor under such high temperature. So most turbocharger uses jounral bearing which is lubricated by oil and cooled down by coolant. Before most turbochargers use for diesel engines as different combustion way of diesel and petrol. So turbochargers using way for engines is different. Petrol engine is different with diesel engine that the gas entering into cylinder is not air , it’s mix of petrol and air to be easy deflagration under high pressure. So turbochargers installation must avoid deflagration which involves two question, one is high temperature controlling , another is ignition time controlling.
The driving force of the mechanical supercharger comes from engine crankshaft. Generally, the torque of crankshaft drives the supercharger by connection of belt and crankshaft belt pulley,then the engine achieves pressurization. According to the different structures, mechanical superchargering had appeared many different types, including Vane , Roots, Wankle and other types.But now, the former two types are common
